Thank You for 40 000 Stars on GitHub

The DuckDB team

The duckdb/duckdb GitHub repository has just passed 40 000 stars!

Star history Star history

We’d like to use this milestone to stop for a moment and revisit recent developments in the DuckStack ecosystem since last summer (2025), when we surpassed 30 000 stars.

Community Metrics

Besides the GitHub stars, the DuckDB community has also experienced a lot of growth in other metrics:

(As usual, we’d like to emphasize that while we’re happy to see these metrics grow, we are not glorifying them and they are not a target per se in accordance with Goodhart’s law.)

Events

Since 30 000 stars, we ran DuckDB meetups in Amsterdam, Berlin, and London. We also hosted a Developer Meeting focused on DuckDB internals and extension development.

Finally, we hosted DuckCon #7, our largest DuckCon so far, which we also streamed online. These events allowed us to connect with our community of engineers, builders, and scientists, and learn about the many ways they are using DuckDB.

Next up, we’ll host the DuckDB Paris meetup with Altertable and we are setting up a meetup in Boston. Stay tuned!

Closing Thoughts

We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the DuckDB community of users and contributors. We look forward to growing the community around the “DuckStack” and hope the GitHub stars follow. We’ll report back when we reach 50 000 stars.
